Describe Taylor's theory of scientific management. Why was it criticized?

Frederick Winslow Taylor (1856-1915) is the father of scientific management theory.
Taylor experiment in three companies: Miduale steel, Semorids Rolling machine and Bethlehem steel
Taylor's four principles of scientific management: 1. science, not the rule of thumb. 2. harmony, not discord. 3. co-operation not individualism 4. development of each and everyone in his/her greatest efficiency and prosperity
  • Techniques of scientific management:
  1. Netted study: finding the best method of performing a specific job.
  2. time study: finding the standard time to perform a given task
  3. motion study: to reduce the unnecessary motions of the workers
  4. fatigue study: to know about the intervals required
  • differential payment: Taylor wanted to make distinction between efficient and inefficient workers and he was in favor of giving incentives to efficient workers
  • Taylor gave importance to scientific recruitment and training
  • Criticism of Taylor: money can not be only motivator, time and motion was not found to be entirely scientific,
